About Jennifer
I received my first “real” camera on my 13th birthday. My parents presented me with my Pentax K1000 that I treasure dearly, and it became a source of experiment and mostly of mystery for many years. (I still have it tucked away nostalgically). I would take rolls of film, eagerly wait for their arrival and ponder and puzzle over the results. Pictures have always fascinated me, and often I can be found pouring over old family albums when I’m visiting homes with a smile on my face.
I’ve been so lucky to have been exposed to many different paths of education, cities and careers over the past 13 years. I believe in fate, and I know that it was necessary to take that long winded path, to put me in the right place at the right time. 8 years ago as a hair stylist in a great salon in Victoria, BC, I was given the opportunity to learn the basic ropes of fashion photography for the salon. It was like everything came together in an instant and I was hooked! I purchased my first digital camera before I moved to Powell River 7 years ago. When my husband and I were planning our wedding, we aren’t quite sure why we chose to be married in Courtenay, but again, fate drew us there. It was during our wedding planning that I met my dear friend and mentor Karen McKinnon. Karen photographed our wedding, then our newborn daughter. I jumped at the opportunity to learn from her and join her as a wedding assistant in 2008. The past 4 years have been a whirlwind of hard work, learning and amazing photography and I hope that it can continue for years to come!
Little did I realize that my love of photography would lead me in to a career. I spent so much time trying to find the perfect fit, only to discover that it was right there waiting for me. I’ve always wanted to brighten people’s lives in a special way, and to have an opportunity to be able to provide them with lasting and cherished memories… well I can’t think of anything better! I look forward to continuing my growth as an artist in the future and I welcome the opportunity to expand learning through exclusive training workshops and courses.
The Digital World, though it has added amazing options, has taken away a little of the magic of photography. Results are instant, the mystery is gone, and we can delete hundreds and thousands of images a year to nowhere. You can take pictures with your camera, phone, computer and who knows what else! Gone are the days of excitement over wondering what memories you have captured. It’s my hope to bring some of the magic back to photography by offering a special, unique opportunity for you and your family. I want you to have the opportunity to have your breath taken away by an image. To be able to present you with a piece of art that you are proud to hang on your wall and show off to your friends is the sole goal.
So about me beyond my life as a photographer. I’m a wife and a mother. A lover of anything crafty when I have the time. I’m passionate about promoting art and real life education for children in conjunction with the skills they learn at school. I’m a perpetual multi-tasker that fawns over the idea of perfect Martha Stewart organization. I want to know as much about gardening as I do about human anatomy (from my 3 year training as a registered massage therapist). I look forward to growing as much in the next decade as I’ve had in the previous.
and that is a little about me…
